The Work Room (TWR) is the national independent dance artists’ development body for Scotland and is the only organisation in the UK devoted to creating a sustainable infrastructure and dedicated workspace for independent artists working in dance. The Work Room’s mission is to empower artists to lead in their practice, putting them at the centre of policy making, enabling them to make high quality, intelligent, pioneering contemporary dance for diverse contexts at home and across the globe.
TWR is committed to facilitating individual creative processes, from pure research through to production, in the belief that artists can act as an essential catalyst within our wider culture – provoking, challenging and transforming our imaginations and our communities. TWR is an advocate for creative and critical discourse amongst contemporary dance performance artists and audiences, and also seeks to provide a lively, supportive meeting place for local and international artists and producers to nurture the development of new ideas and visions.
Shift is Associate Producer at The Work Room with Kim Simpson also working part time as Programme Coordinator. Kim works closely with Director Laura Eaton Lewis on delivering TWR’s broad programme designed to empower independent artists.
